  the move - dirty dancing

Unquestionably king of the "big-budget" Dance movies from the decade of dance, Dirty Dancing is a rare case of a movie that warmly deserves it's runaway success. Made for a relative pittance by independent studio Vestron, the true story of Dirty Dancing is one of persistence ...not least on the part of the lady on who's life the story is (loosely) based. Eleanor Bergstein wrote Dirty Dancing as a warm recollection of her memories of trips with her parents to Catskills holiday camps just like "Kellerman's" in the movie. (From www.fast-rewind.com)

Along with the success of the film, the soundtrack to Dirty Dancing became the largest selling soundtrack in movie history, a record which still stands. At last count over 22 million coopies have been reported sold domestically; adding foreign sales, makes the soundtrack to Eleanor Bergstein's story from the 30s even more remarkable. The stars of Dirty Dancing stars were Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey.

Many of the scenes in Dirty Dancing were filmed at the Lake Lure Inn in North Carolina. Inn owner John Mojjis carefully negotiated with the movie production company to film many of the movies' scenes on the property adjacent to the Lake Lure Inn. The success of Dirty Dancing lead to the Dirty Dancing Review that went on the road throughout the southeast, with co-headliners Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs. Maurice and company played such favorites as Little Richard's Tutti Frutti and the Coasters' Yakety Yak. Of course Stay was the real crowd favorite. (Above information found in Harry Turner's book "This Magic Moment")

Thanks to Dirty Dancing, Stay was part of the original motion picture soundtrack, whicn becam Maurice William's first and only platinum album. Furthermore, Stay was the B-side of the monster #1 hit single "Time of Your Life" by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes.
